Top tips for looking after your boiler in Winter
Boiler not working? A UK winter cold snap could cause frozen pipes and boiler breakdowns. Simple Heating have some top tips for keeping cosy during winter months.
TIP #1
Make sure your radiators are properly vented and not cold at the top because air inside means you’re going to be freezing cold…. and we don’t want that!
TIP #2
Check the pressure on your boiler is correct… as zero pressure means no central heating for you guys and it takes minutes to sort.
TIP #3
Are your radiators cold at the bottom??? This could mean a build-up of sludge inside the radiator. Look to have your system flushed professionally.
TIP #4
Don’t be wasting more energy than you have to. Get yourself a programmable thermostat, keep your usage economical – and you’ll enjoy lower energy bills.
TIP #5
If your energy bill feels high, your heating system might not be running as efficiently as it could be. A power flush can deliver up to 50% more efficiency every time you heat a room, your house will heat up quicker and with less noise.
TIP #6
Remember that heat rises, so you can save money on your energy bill by setting the controller on your upstairs radiators to 2 or 3 and letting the heating from your downstairs circulate throughout. Also, make sure radiators in rooms that are never used (i.e. the box room) are just ticking over on low – so set those to 1.
TIP #7
Always service your boiler annually to make sure it is in good working order in the first place and any potential issues can be rectified before the cold snap hits. Yearly servicing may also be part of the warranty conditions and ensuring your home insurance is valid.
