Could your Tenant get a free boiler?

If you are the estate agent, landlord of a property and your tenant is in receipt of the correct combination of income-related benefits, then your tenant could qualify for your old boiler to be replaced through a government grant. The boiler which is currently installed must be 6+ years old in order to qualify for funding.

Who pays for the boiler, parts and installation?

The UK’s ECO scheme (energy companies obligation) is a non-repayable UK government grant which funds installation of free boilers and insulation into homes which are most vulnerable, or most at risk. Millions of boilers have been installed already throughout the UK, and millions more could still qualify.

It is illegal to ignore requests from your tenants about things that they would like improving in the property which they rent from you. If one of your property’s boiler is on the blink and you’ve been avoiding the cost of getting it replaced, a grant through the ECO scheme could help you in many ways . Also, your new A-rated boiler will boost your properties EPC ratings making it much more appealing to future tenants, and when you eventually come to sell your asset.

How it works…

How Do Tenants Apply?

Unless you know the exact benefits which your tenant receives and have the paperwork to hand, we would recommend you get them to visit our free boiler scheme page to apply themselves. This way the information is likely to be much more accurate and could stop any potential delays in their boiler grant application.

Tenants Need Your Permission

In order to proceed with a boiler grant, the tenant will need your written permission. This means that no work can be completed until you have overseen everything and are happy. Once you’ve signed on the dotted line then the boiler can be installed.

What’s The Process?

Once we’ve received your tenants application, we’ll make contact to confirm details and book a free energy survey of the property. We’ll talk you through the process and book an installation date. It’s as simple as that!
